Water acts as a solvent, providing the medium for the other ingredients. Dimethicone, a silicone-based polymer, serves as a skin-conditioning agent and enhances spreadability through its low viscosity, which allows for efficient application. Its occlusive properties help to create a barrier on the skin that reduces transepidermal water loss (TEWL), thereby potentially enhancing hydration levels in the epidermis over time. Silica, in its amorphous form, is utilized in formulations for its oil-absorbing capabilities and to impart a soft-focus effect. It helps control shine by absorbing excess sebum, thus contributing to the matte finish. With a typical pH range around 5.5 to 6.5, the formulation is compatible with skin's natural acidity, aiding in minimizing irritation and supporting the skin's barrier function.
